College Tour 2009

by on Dec.27, 2009, under Reader Posts

In the fall of 2009 we took a family vacation to look at 3 of the 5 colleges Joseph was applying to for the 2010 fall semester. We also decided since he had just turned 18 that we would take him to New York City to see where he was born and grew up. Because we moved out of New York when he was 5 years old he had very limited memories of his childhood there and was curious to see all the places we are always talking about.

The trip started out with 2 days in Chicago, IL taking in the sites of downtown followed by a visit to DePaul University. Next we flew to Greensboro, North Carolina where we quickly drove down to High Point University just in time for the last tour of the day. The next day even before the sun came up we were off to New York City. Here we spent 2 days sightseeing along with watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving day Parade (click here to see the parade pictures).

On Friday the day after Thanksgiving, we drove upstate to Ithaca, NY to see Ithaca University. After looking around the campus for a half hour we had a nice lunch in Ithaca and then headed back to NYC for more sightseeing.

And on Saturday before heading back to Las Vegas, we drove up to Westchester County to show Joseph where he was born and grew up.

It was an amazing trip, one that we will all remember!

    Congrats to “King Joe”, was there ever any doubts of his acceptance? Of course not! Now the only thing we have to get set is moving the “Pony” to California for safe keeping for at least the first year, otherwise we all know Lori will be cruising LV with it and we can’t have that.
    Keep up the Web updates, there really great.

    Tony;
    Hope you do not mind me writing….
    While searching the web for family tree information on the Marras, I came across your website. I enjoyed reading and best wishes to Joe. I was wondering if you had any roots (grandparents etc…) that came over from Italy in early 1900’s. My grandfather (Ralph who settled in Harlem and whom I am named after) lost track of his brother (my father Anthony does not know his lost uncle’s name). So I am looking for any Marras that may have a lost brother or uncle named Ralph.
    I was taught that you never know till you ask… so I am asking around… Thanks Ralph Marra originally from Bronx – now of Long Island…

    Ralph,
    My father Joseph Marra used to tell me that the Marra’s were all related somehow. But to be honest after he passed away in 1972 I haven’t kept up with much of the family on his side. I really don’t remember any of his relatives being named Ralph. I think he told me that his parents had come from PA, but I’m not sure.
    In any case it was nice to hear from another Marra!
    Tony
