Labor Day 2009

by on Sep.11, 2009, under Reader Posts

Labor Day is officially a day to rest in honor of our American workers. Well the Marra’s celebrated Labor Day Weekend with 3 days of Fun, Family and Food! (Lo-Carb food for all us dieters)

We kicked off the weekend with our cousins Ed and Janet Fay coming in for a weekend visit on Saturday. Never to arrive empty handed the Fay’s brought in 6 plus pounds of Italian sausage which we properly dispatched of during Saturday’s First Lo-Carb dinner.

Sunday brought around a day of playing in the pool with the Earl girls, Erika and Anabelle, while a 16 pound turkey was roasting on the rotisserie! Lori produced several Lo-Carb side dishes to accompany the turkey and we all sat down to our Second Lo-Carb feast of the weekend that evening.

Monday took us out in the sun for lots more pool time followed by giant Lo-Carb barbeque cook out. Our old CA neighbors and honorary grandparents, Mike and Ann Terlizzi joined our old NV neighbors Charlie and Barb Hommel for our Third Lo-Carb meal of the weekend.

A great Labor Day Weekend was enjoyed by all… that is except the chickens, turkey, pigs, and cattle we ate all weekend to keep our carb intake low!

Our Oregon Cousins

by on Jun.03, 2009, under Reader Posts

After posting the picture I found on the Internet of the Mucarello Cleaners matchbook, I got an unexpected follow up. Our cousin Jeffrey Angelo Muscarello Bobst (yes that really is his name!) from Happy Valley, Oregon wrote me. He is Uncle Angelo Muscarello’s oldest daughter Jeannette’s, oldest son. (She also has a older daughter Lesa and a younger son Mike).

Anyway Jeff and I have been exchanging emails and we hope to get together later this year in Vegas to meet for the first time in our lives.

And so here are our newly discovered Oregon cousins, from left to right; Jeff, son Nathan, son Garrett, daughter Kelli, wife Karen, and son Andrew.

Welcome to our family, Cousins !!!

Mother’s Day 2009

by on May.12, 2009, under Reader Posts

Another Mother’s Day has come and gone and Lori and I were lucky to spend the entire day with Joseph. As soon as Lori woke up, Joseph and I treated her to breakfast on our side patio. After a appetizer, we followed that with eggs and then desert. And after we cleared the plates we presented her with cards and presents.

Later that afternoon after Lori returned from a leisurely shopping trip we treated her to snacks and beverages by the pool while Joseph and I threw the football around despite the 76 degree pool water.

That evening Joseph and I took her to Marche Bacchus French Bistro and Wine Shop for a beautiful dinner by the Lake. Actually it’s in the Desert Shores Community here in Las Vegas where they have these beautiful man made lakes. And from the pictures below you can see she truly enjoyed yet another Mother’s day!

Muscarello’s Cleaners

Talk about a small world!

I was just doing a little surfing around the internet and stumbled (quite literally) on this.

It was part of someone’s match collection.
(I wrote him but I doubt he’ll answer)

How many of you remember Uncle Angelo’s store?

I can still picture all the bowling trophies in the window and the gumball machine when you walked in. I was always begging my mom for a gumball every time we brought clothes over to Uncle Angelo to clean.

Or how about that phone number?

BUTLER – 2 – 2500

Which eventually was changed to

282-2500

Do you remember all the fuss everyone made when that happened?

Ahh… but all the old people ignored the “28” and still referred to it as BUTLER or BU !!!

Wow… haven’t thought of that stuff in years.

To whoever collected this matchbook:

Thanks for the Memories!

Easter 2009

Katie Wrona & her friend John were just here in Vegas for Easter. We spent an enjoyable 24 hours with them coloring eggs, (Katie won 1st & 3rd place despite John’s formal University Easter Egg training), attending Elton John’s “Red Piano” concert, (successfully kept John away from the gambling tables for you Dennis), attended 8AM Easter morning mass, where we all struggled to stay awake, participated in Lori’s annual Easter morning “Easter Basket Hunt”, (where Katie won again), and finally breakfasted on Betty’s Easter Borsht and Katie’s first whole wheat Pierogi, (which Joseph took to school for lunch the next day), before sending them on their way back to San Diego. Thanks for coming John & Katie, we had a great time!
